This little fella was rescued and now it's officially the clinic dog for the eastern branch. Just like the one at the west branch, I believe Mathieu's going to be a fine Supervisor, making sure that all the humans are doing their work and not eating snake.

The Inglorious Basterds; To those peepz who hates blood and gore.... please give this movie a miss. Watched this movie yesterday and dang, it was shocking! Should have known that a WWII movie can never be "non-violence" and I thought that this one is different after watching the trailer on TV. All they show on TV was the funny parts!!!! JEEZ!!! So went to watch this movie, thinking that it was a comedy. How stupid can I get.... -_-"

Then in the movie, I thought it was impossible for me to make it through chapter one!!! first chapter liao, all the blood and gore you can get.... *faint*

Not going to watch another WWII movie... so depressing... My Little Pony anyone?

Count My Blessings

I've decided.

I've decided to start counting my blessings everyday from now on instead of just getting annoyed by the things that ticks me off. Been getting so pissed with my daily unpleasant encounters that I am starting to become a old hag who had worked as a receptionist for several dozen years... Even tiny little things that was once overlooked and ignored by me starts to annoy the hell out of me!

Thus, to give myself a better quality of life, I shall start to count my blessings every day!!!

Here goes for today:

no annoying clients today.
had yummy chicken chop rice for lunch today
drank Goldroast brand 3-in-1 coffee, brought back good old memories from my time as an attachment student at Jurong Bird Park. Got to have a cup of Goldroast coffee before starting work at the Bird Show. Enjoyed my 5 months there; met many great friends and worked with beautiful birds.
enjoyed a short snooze during dinner break.
finished watching the anime "Vampire Knight". Great series!
met my poly lecturer at work. she used to teach me organic chemistry. Her dog came by to visit the vet at my clinic.
took a nice drive home via the longer way. really enjoy driving.
met a client whose son and husband attended the same primary school as me!
Had a great dinner of Mince Meat noodle at Bedok 85.
Sitting here in my own bedroom, typing out my blessings while enjoying the wonderful music on Class 95 and the darkness of the night.

Whenever a dogs comes in with diarrhea problem, a poo poo sample will usually be collected for checking under the microscope. thus i was given opportunities to actually look through the slide once in a while.

And I did so today.

Looking at the mashed up shit + water is pretty mind boggling. There are so much stuff in there that just sets you thinking...

And here are the thought that went through my mind for this particular one...

"Ooohh.... cellulose tissues, must be from the vege that the owner gave. or maybe the dog likes grass?"

in another field. "wah, got synthetic fibers. this dog is eating clothes ah? Maybe... since it a jack russell."

"eeek!!! bacterias everywhere! look at them swimming and spinning!!!"

"Oooh.... an amoeba..."

"I wonder got worm eggs or not...."

So peepz, shit is very interesting. It's just like a box of chocolate, you'll never know what you'll get next, in this case, same shit different smell.

Prescribing antibiotics tablet to a client for a mid size dog, "please give 1.5 tab twice a day"

Client: "Aiyo... tablet ah... very hard to give this dog one... he damn smart, can smell the tablet one"

Me: "You can try crushing the tablet and feed with some wet food"

Client:" Still can smell one. got other kind or not?"

Me: "how about syrup form?"

Client:"OK can, syrup better."

So poor Angel go ask the vet for dosage

Me:"Ok, this one is the syrup version, you must feed 3cc twice a day."

Client: "har? twice a day ah... once a day can or not?"

Me:" no, that's not enough"

Client:"har.... 3cc... so much. got any other ways ah?

Me:"got... bring dog in for inj every day for 14 days."

Client:" wah! still need to bring in every day? Never mind, i'll take the tablet, tablet easier to feed."

Me: "......."

After the clinic closed, I began to carry out some accounting at the front desk. Comes along a client with a dog walking towards our clinic door. She pushed the door, but it refused to open... OF COURSE! Because the clinic is closed and the glass door is locked and chained!!!

I signal with my palm that we are already closed. Apparently, me acknowledging her presence was a extremely bad choice....

*client standing at the door looking at the 'CLOSED' sign. Knocks the glass door*

Client shouting through the door: "You guys are closed ah?"

Me: "Yes"

Client look at the 'CLOSED' sign again: "Really closed?"

Me: " Yes, since 4.30pm."

Client: "oh... what time you close?"

Client: " oh... so close at 4.30 ah?"

Me: "Yes"

Client, pointing at the chain on the door: " Really closed ah?"

Me: *faints*

At that point, I really don't know whether I should just laugh or cry....

My Trip to KL

Recently went on another trip to KL to visit a friend there. So on the long way there, I had some fun with my sister’s camera, a Sony T77….

So far, it’s got pretty nice functions, example, the edit photo and also calendar view of the gallery. LOVE the macro functions too. the down side of this camera is that it feels very fragile, especially the touch screen. Machiam can get damaged easily. But overall, I’m pretty happy with this camera. too bad it’s not mine…

As mentioned in the previous post, here are the photos from P. Tioman fishing!

Set off at around 1pm, got back at 7pm. Catch rates average. Boat? one tiny dingy which max can only accommodate 3 angler and 1 boatman. Can't complain much since it's a last minute booking. All the other fishing boat were already rented out as it's the school holidays.

While waiting for the boat to arrive, the local village cat decided to kaypo...

Getting bored, the cat became a way to kill boredom.... hahaha!!!

So on the boat on the way to the fishing spot.

Lucky that the wave that day not so big, if not, sure faint sia....

Here are the different catch.

No idea what fish is this, only remember seeing this in the wet market long time ago...

A small grouper. The poor thing suffered decompression from me yanking it out of the deep waters... It was released, but dunno made it back or not...

Here's the total catch, not bad for a fishing quick fix.

"NO KITTY! NO FISH FOR YOU!!"

Gave the catch to restaurant nearby and they grilled 4 for our dinner for free! Fantastically Yummy!!!

Looking forward to another trip to tioman, hopefully this time better planned on a larger fishing boat.

With this kind of extended working hours... i hardly have the time to actually stay at home and nua (slack), no need to mention about blog.

BUT! Today, I some how (miraculously)got the time to do so~! so here an update of what i've been doing (other than slogging at work)

1: Happy Prawning
Been actively prawning at East coast park recently. With close friends, talking cock and eating rubbish. Great place to hang out, nice ambiance and nice fat prawns. catch rates also good, but depends on the time of the day. I got photos to share too!

2: Happy fishing
Went on a fishing spree in Malaysia 2 weeks ago.
1 day at a palm plantation catching haruan.
1 day at pulau tioman catching coral fish from a little dingy boat. Lucky got bring sea sick pills. the tiny boat was rocking like mad!!! >_< caught baby grouper, wrasse, big mama puffer and 2 kinds of red fish which i yet to find the species.
and 1 day at a fresh water pond in KL for Pacu! Photos will have to be put up later.

3: Stupid car owners
SOME STUPID DRIVER LEFT A HUGE SCRATCH ON MY CAR'S LEFT FRONT BUMPER!!!!! KNS!!!! Many others also gave my car so many paint marks from their own car!!!! KAOZ....

Many a times, I contemplate about spending $1K to respray my little vios. But with cases like this, how? so angry. Many drivers on the road fair no better. especially those road hoggers on the 1st lane. GOT OUT OF THE 1ST LANE YOU TERRAPINS!!!

Hmph!

4: Working life...
still the same as ever... even longer hours.... sian. AND somehow stupid people just like to annoy me... shoo shoo, go away.

5: Camera
Have yet to get it. can't bare to part with that much money leh... sigh.... maybe when i win $1m dollar

6: Tiny notebook computer
Looking to get one so that i can bring it to work and slack more. wahahhaaa!!!

Mini Prawning in Taiwan

If you think Prawning in Singapore is hard... Mini prawning in Taiwan is harder...

The rule here is to try to hook up the prawns (same kind of big head prawn you get in Prawning ponds here) with a treble hook on a line made of soft cotton thread that break easily... Jeez... the thread can just break upon touching the water loh... Really wonder how it is possible to catch the prawns sia....

But at S$1 per hook, I don't mind giving it a try... Looks fun and challenging!

I wonder what they do with the prawns they caught... Mmm... Prawn sashimi anyone?

New Prawning Hang out!

Went to the newly opened East Coast Park Prawning Pond few nights ago. Catch rates not bad, even the newbies are bringing up shrimps one after another.

Got my fair share that night. 3 hours got me about close to 40 pieces of relatively good sized prawns. Not bad for a new prawning hang out.

There are also two more other ponds, one for marine prawns and the other marine fishes. Catches rates at the salt water prawns were not as good though, i only saw a few pieces brought up during my 3 hours stay there. The saltwater fish pond was under maintenance that night. They were filling up the pond with water straight from the beach side. Managed to get a glimpse of the variety of fishes inside, Grouper, snapper, sea bass, 1 giant trevelly and OCTOPUS!!! Yup, Octopus! Think got a few released inside, imagine getting one on your pole rod. Very interesting catches i might say.

I'm sure I'll be there again soon. MUAHAHAHAA!!!

Recently, I've been having some weird dreams during my sleep... Funny to a certain extend.

"The Bus Stop"

Think I was wearing my Secondary school uniform (Yes... The old bus driver uniform...) and waiting for bus number 74. (I don't understand why 74 since this bus doesn't go anywhere near my secondary school.) Anyway, there I was waiting for 30, 45 mins, watching all the bus number, except 74, pass by. Then at a tiny corner of the bus stop, I saw a sign...

"Service number of bus 74 had been changed to 151 and will only serve the bus stop opposite the road"

(WTH with the language??? trust me, this is exactly what I saw in my dream)

Wah kaoz... Waited for so long liao then realized...

L L got to cross the road to the other side of the road to take bus number 151.

Then I woke up. "What's that dream sia... so boh liao..." Go back to sleep...

Okie! as mentioned in my previous entry, here are the photos!

First up from the end of the line is a little mullet ( orh he ). not the fish that I'm aiming for, but it's a nice little cutie.

Next up is a whiting (aka swah jiam), about the size of my palm.

Some dead fish washed ashore. Left: leathe jacket, right: a scat (kim kor) about 15cm long from mouth to tail. it'll be a nice fish to fight on a light tackle, but watch out for those dorsal spine!

A big fat mama sea lice clinging under the fish.

removing the lice reveals the damage from all the blood sucking. Sea lice mostly target there or the gills inside as that's where the blood vessels are thick and accessible. Imagine finding on your dinner plate attached to your grilled fish.... *eek!*

I got bored and made some fish sculptures... and stupid enough to stepped on it... DUH...

Small little whiting. about 7cm long.

Here's the catch for the day. the smaller whitings and mullets were relased for another day.

The other two...

End up in my cat's stomach...

Later that day, at farmway 1 prawning pond...

They removed the roofing! jeez! Almost got fried to crisp in the afternoon sun!!!

With a plan to go fishing tomorrow, I thought that I should try catching some sand worms along Changi beach. So there I was, pouring a bread+water mixture onto the sand and...

BOO!!!! OUT COMES A BIG ASS WORM!!!!

OMG!

I TOTALLY FREAKED OUT MAN!!!

Being so used to those tiny baby worms usually sold in tackle shops, this monster seemed like a WORMZILLA!!! It's head is easily the thickness of my thumb!

totally taken aback, I had to take sometime to actually walk back to the same spot and have a closer look. And there it is with it's HUGE JAW, WIDE OPEN! It's got those black and white bristle sticking out from the head too!!!

IT'S HUGE!!!! DAMMIT!

being empty handed for the pass 2 hours, I thought I should give this worm a try.

I was out of my mind...

Almost instantaneously, the 4 serrated teeth of the monster snapped onto the sock (containing the bread) and pull back into the burrow! It's extremely strong!!!

KAOZ! It'll definately take out a person's finger easily!

But then (Luckily) it let go and left behind a sock with a hole...

JEEZ...

Now catching sand worms had taken a whole new meaning...

This experience greatly fortified my belief of 'never walk around on the beach barefooted' idea.

Back home, a short search finally revealed that the wormzilla is called "Giant Reef Worm" or Bobbit Worm (Eunice aphroditois} More information here.

Bobbit worms can grow up to 3 meters long... imagine what will happen if I managed to pull out that bugger...

I think I'm addicting to my old love... Fishing and Prawning!

Almost 1 year ago I last touch a reel, I thought that my passion for fishing and prawning had died. Somehow, this addiction of mine (since more than 15 years ago) proved me otherwise.

After that night prawning at FW1, I found myself wanting more of the kick of a tug at the end of the line.

But it is kinda sucky when I'm going to be stuck at work for 6 days this week, covering 1 extra day for a colleague.

So looking forward for a nice session with my prawning gears this coming weekend.

but before that comes, 5 more grueling days till the weekends...

Finally went on a prawning session last night at the prawning pond (aka cement pond) beside Aquafauna at Pasir Ris Farmway 1.

2 Rods at 3 hours each between four friends. Caught close to 40 over pieces. not bad i supposed, but still, I'll prefer a less crowded pond. not the mentioned the the netting above is extremely annoying. Luckily, my prawning skills is still up to standard. hahaha!

Anyway, forgot to take some photos of the total catch. Below is my share, ready for the cooking pot!

Goodness... after two long (but fun) years in Perth, I'm finally became a degree grad officially. now... with this piece of paper, I felt charged to RULE OVER THE WORLD!!!! Er... I mean, Get ready for the tough (generally sadist) society.

Today is just another of my precious off days and thus, took the opportunity to just laze around on my bed. Began reading back old blog post in my own blog and I realized that how different I am now as compared to only 2-3 years ago...

How care-free I'm used to be...
How beautiful the world seemed to be...

and now?

after working for less than a year, I'm feeling weighed down by commitments and the ugliness of this society.

"How selfish can human be?" i thought to myself many years back, refusing to admit to the rotten habits of many earth's inhabitants. but I've more or less witness the answers to this question. "And yes... they are F***ing ugly"

Roses grew thorns. Skies grew dark clouds. Humans grew thorns on the body and dark clouds on their faces.

Really miss those days where I can be just be myself. Happy. Care-free.

Now... I'm just another idiot who gave in to the obligation of this country's disgusting lifestyle and society. The whole law and order here is just a big scam. Even people closest to you can just change with a flip of a switch. And it is true that you'll get hurt the most by the one you really care. But F*** lah, the truth is, humans are just selfish bastards. Hypocrites that only want to feed their own ego.

I've come to the lowest point ever in my life... but got no more strength to pull myself out of it...

on 7th June 2008, an ex-TP course-mate passed away due to multiple organ failure caused by meningitis, brain infection. Her name is Hazel, a well known www.flowerpod.com.sg moderator, nicknamed foolz. Her mother found her unconscious in the morning two days before her death and was rush to the hospital, only to find out that her daughter is in coma and suffering from brain damaged. She didn't manage to wake up and left for a better world on the morning of 7th june 2008.

14th june 2008, Rui Xing, a friend who shared a slice of my musical life passed away in a car crash. He, too, suffered trauma to the head when the car hit a tree. He was pronounced dead in the hospital at 3.34pm.

Jeez... it's really hard to find the time and mood to do some blogging now a days... especially when i am working my ass off trying to save animals every day and deal with STUPID clients...

anyway... it's high time i introduce the new member in my family...

everyone, please meet Noname Mercedes!!!
(noname is pronounced as no-naa-meh, and mercedes as in the uncle looking car lor...)

this little ball of fur came into my life during my first month working at the clinic. he was found with an open wound fracture and was brought in to the clinic by a kind hearted uncle. unfortunately, the front left limb was badly mangled most probably by a vicious dog and had to be amputated. the kitten (estimated to be around 3 to 4 monthd old) had several other braised wounds throughout the body but was quickly cleaned and treated. It was registered as "no name" stray cat.

the sweetness of this little fella came to light when it was still purring whenever we are handling him during treatment etc. Even after all the pain and suffering this little life had went through...

the whole amputation procedure took almost an hour and the surgery was a success with no complications at all. with the wound stitched up, the area where once a limb sticked out is not just a little stump.

"poor little thing" i thought to myself. I wondered if it's going to get depressed after realizing the missing limp... but God sure is wonderful. right after the next day, Noname (the clinic staff decided to call it Noname instead of no name) was walking around with all three legs and don't seemed to be bothered at all. and it began to purl none stop! goodness... what a resilient kitten.

and 3 days after the surgery? It was bouncing all over the clinic like a cat with 10 legs!!!

and day 4? Noname ended up in my home. Period.

what to do? It's soooooo sweet!!!

My family fell in love with it the very first moment they saw him. (my dad denies it, but it is obvious that he still dotes on the kitten)

it's almost 4 months now since he come into my family, and still with 3 limbs, it is bouncing off the walls like a 20 legged animal and catching lizards like a pro.

So i decided to pick up by butt and blog something after 3 months of silence here. HA! Having a hard time falling asleep as I've been snoozing like a pig on my off day. For the past 2 hours, many wonderful memories played through my mind as I randomly surf through Facebook and found out many of my Perth friends having a great time over there. And me.... totally loosing my life to the ever stressful, working life in Singapore. Short to say, I totally have no life liao. (in the typical singlish slang)

Singapore is definitely different from Perth. You hardly get wide open space here ( not like in Perth, you hardly see any building taller than my university's library) and there are just too many people. People on the streets, tons of people in my neighborhood, gazillions cars on the roads (making driving a chore rather than a enjoyment) and the constant annoyance of noise pollution from my 'weighing-like-2-ton neighbor' staying just above my unit.

Anyway, having my Perth driver's license converted to Singapore license, I, once again, took to the roads like a newly fledged eagle. With a more powerful wing ( upgrading from a 19 year old swift to a 2 year old Vios), trying to cruise through the hazardous road was once thought to be impossible.

I used to enjoy a nice drive in the evening along the quiet roads of South Street where by 9pm, the roads are usually empty. As for Singapore? Sigh.... cars cars cars and TAXI totally cover the whole of PIE. Even after a long day at the clinic, I still have to struggle to drive a long way home from the west back to the east. Tired eyes trying to stay open while my body and mind tries to control a chunk of metal that is hurling through the road at 100km/h. Avoiding horrible taxi drivers and selfish drivers.

Really miss the feeling of being in the wide open space. The cool air of Perth now filled with sweet smelling eucalyptus, my favs. Beautiful morning mist that cloaks the forest. even the caw of the ravens there seems so relaxing now.

Nope. I am still alive. Been busy with my new full time job at a vet clinic, so hardly have the spare time to blog.

Although it is tiring, it is one of the best job i ever had besides the one at the bird park. My colleagues are great people and everyday got to see and hug cute cats and dogs. If course we do have some sad cases where animals in a serious accident had to be put down. I also have my share of cursing at horrid owners that simply have no compassion for their poor pet. Always wait till the dog or cat collapsed from chronic illness then decide to bring the struggling pet to the vet. Terrible owners... it's sad that many owners don't provide the necessary needs for their companion animals. Many thought that feed just food and water and clearing the pee and shit is more than enough le. Keeping pets is more than just that. The emotional needs of the animals are very important too. Just like children, they need to be disciplined, if not, they'll grow up like spoiled brats.

Dental is extremely important too. clean teeth goes a long way for the animal, reducing the risk of heart problems as well as teeth decay. My few chances of doing dental cleaning for cats and dogs made me realized that some owners think that these animals do not need dental cleaning like humans. Especially dog owners. They thought that giving dogs bone to chew means cleaning their teeth. We've even removed shards of bones almost 3 to 4 cm long from the back of the lower jaw of a small dog! Goodness! What are these owners thinking? There are cases where we have to extract almost 7 decaying teeth from a little dog. Tell me, how can I not get angry with this owner?

Hiaz... can go on and on ranting about bad owners lah.... so annoyed with them... Hope one day AVA can come out with something about this... like banning bad owners from getting new pets or have better laws that protect these poor animals. Maybe even have Animals Welfare Police!

A Brand New Year...

With 2007 finally done, we've entered into a brand new year 2008! and of course, brand new resolutions. But before that let's look back at those resolutions I've made for year 2007:

1) Study harder
That goes without saying lar... Anyway, that's the very reason why I stuck here in Perth in the first place...

Eh.... ok lar.... Since I passed my final exams and now a graduand, I can say that I've fulfilled this point. hahahaa!!!

2) Take up a hobby that allows my body to work out.
I have not decided on which one yet, but was thinking that cycling around Perth is a great idea. Bringing my camera along to new places is great too. Or maybe dancing... This would require money as I have to attend dancing classes. Oh yar! How can I forget about Scouts??? But then... Not sure whether it's such a good idea... Have to find out more.

This I've done it! I eventually took up badminton and had regular badminton sessions with some friends in Perth every week. Managed to maintained my body weight at an acceptable range though I would prefer to slim down a little more (which girl doesn't? hahhaha!) Anyway, I'm glad that I'm not overweight with amount of food I always cooked for myself...

3) Get to know some local anglers
Heh heh... and they will bring me to hot spots!!! Ho ho ho... Big fat breams... Fishing from a little boat... Fishing in open seas!!!! *excited*

Failed to do this. Ever since my fishing kakis returned to Singapore, I've yet to do any fishing since. hiaz... I'm not going to lax on my fishing since I'm back in Singapore.

4) Be a better chef for myself.
I've been so lazy lately... Instant noodles for the past few days. So this new resolution means... less instant food and more fresh food.

YES! Managed to cook for myself more frequently, but at the expense of my body weight... I ALWAYS COOK TOO MUCH!!!!

5) Be less anti-social.
When someone told me that I am anti-social, a sense of shock rang through my head. "ME? Anti-social???? They've got to be kidding man..." I think stephy and the rest of the guys are trying so hard to shut me up sometimes... hahaha! Feel so bad that they have to 'tah han' my noisy-ness, but hey, I know that still love me...

Anyway, since some are complaining that I am anti-social, I shall try to be more anti-anti-social. hohoho... you guys ask for it one!

Mmm... Not very sure about this though... But I did meet some new friends in Perth and my work with TSL allowed me to interact with many others from other universities and societies through the different events. So guessed that it some how made me a better person social wised.

2007's been quite one of the most happening year in my life. Many life changing things happened within this one year...

- First time living off-campus
- Got my driver's license
- My very first car! A 17 year old white suzuki swift. Named it Seahorse.
- Made my very first cheese cake and bento
- Great times with The Singapore Link friends
- Contemplation of becoming a vet doctor or an air stewardess
- NEW LAP TOP!!!!
- Completed Final Fantasy 12 and Okami. Chiong Ace Combat series like mad woman.
- Made lots of friends in ECU Singapore society
- Realised that Perth has beautiful wild orchids!
- wrote my first ever 3.5K words essay in 3 days!
- getting eaten alived by ticks.
- My second visit to the Red Bull Air Race in Perth
- Completed a 2 year study in Perth and finally back in SINGAPORE!

Year 2008 and my new resolution

Now back in Singapore as a fresh grad fresh from Perth's oven, having found a full time job was a great blessing to me. There are many other things I've got to plan for now, my career, family now and family in the future and of course! my forever passion for fishing and animals. So here's my resolution for year 2008:

1. Work hard in my new job and aim to save my first 10k by the end of year 2008. Which means... save save save if I want to get my S2000 or my WRX in the future!!!

2. Upgrade myself with some new skills such as web building and proper speaking.

3. Try to eat more food which are high in fiber. Been having a hard time keeping a regular shitting schedule... so I think that I should improve on my eating habits. I should try to lay off the fats too... so... bye bye to chicken skin and pork fat cubes...

4. To be less 'lian' This is going to the a tough one...

5. Tone up my body. Hopefully can pick up dancing or some other form of sports.

6. try to keep in contact with my old friends and current friends. I've been really neglecting many of my pals when I am in Perth, so better catch up with them and have a great time together again.

'Fun Facts' of Singapore

Driving in Perth, signal left means give way to the car.
Driving in Singapore, signal left means "Faster speed up and don't let him cut in!"

It's annoying that people decided to not give way to you and speed up once they see your signal lights blinking. In the end, drivers have to resort to cuting into the lane without signaling and thus creating a dangerous situation.

Drivers in Perth love to be the one giving way to other drivers. I mean, you will only be 1/2 a second later to reach your destination, and in turn, you'll feel good to had done something nice. But no... In Singapore, giving way to others is like loosing $1000.

So much for trying to be a gracious country...

Oil Price

Fuel price hikes has been the talk of the town recently, heck! It's the talk of the whole world!!! When I first arrived in Perth 2 years ago, oil price was only at A$0.8. And during my last week in Perth, it was $1.3, means, oil priced rose by $0.5 in just 2 years! But since I only visit the petrol station once every 2 weeks, A$35 for a 1L swift was not much of a pinch, so it didn't really bothered me very much.

Back in Singapore today, I was at the petrol station filling a full tank for my dad's 2L Camry and proceed to make payment at the counter with the idea that it'll cost only max S$80 or S$90. Then the lady said "A hundred and ten and sixty cents".

And these are the instant reaction I had;

*stunned*
*SHOCK*
*HORROR!!!!*

Oh my Goodness!!!!! S$110.60!!!!!!

All these emotions in just 2 seconds flat. But before I can say or do anything, somehow my hand reacted faster than my brain and the next moment, I realized that my bank card is already with the cashier....

Maybe I should use my own 'Car' instead, 'car' as in legs in hokkien, Kah. It's free and the more you use, the better it gets.

Finally! I'm back in Singapore for good!!!! well... actually, am already in Singapore for the past few days, but been rushing some final report due today and now I can really really really relax.

Being in Perth for the past 2 years was great. I've got no curfew, got a driving license and my very own car, learn to cook edible meals (not instant noodles hor), wash the toilet, do my own laundry, vacuum the floor etc etc... come to think about, it is almost like have your own house except money does not come from me. Hahaha. Really got to thank my parent's 'sponsorship' to "Angelin Academy".

Although the holiday casual job in Perth did earn me some money, that, of course, was not enough to sustain the expenses in Perth. But then again... working in Perth, even as a casual, have very juicy pay. Imagine working as a stock taker (really a monkey's job) for $16 AUD per hour! That's almost 18 Singapore dollars leh! and from what I heard from friends working in Mac, casual workers get paid almost 20 Singapore dollars per hour!!!!! Compare to Singapore's $3.80 per hour (that was 3 years ago, not too sure about recent rates), super far-cry man...

Hiaz... Staying in Singapore for good might not be all that great. My first trip down to Suntec city the very next day ended with lots of frustration. One word. SUPER UN-GRACIOUS-NESS. ok... that's 2 words but seriously... after being so used to the lifestyle in Perth, Singaporeans selfishness was being amplified many folds that it makes me feel like scolding some of them on the streets.

One such example; imagine you are waiting for the lift at level 1 and wanted to get to level 3 carpark. You press the button and wait for the lift to descend from level 3. Looking at the indicator, you noticed that the lift stopped at level 2, then finally proceed to level 1. When the door open, you came face to face with a group of about 5 person in the lift with half the space left. It is a pretty small lift with max load of 10 person. So, since the lift is already at the ground floor, you assumed that the people who board the lift from the upper level come out of the lift at the lowest floor. but NO! they just simple show that 'The-lift-is-full' face and close the door. Of course not to miss the lift, you instinctively press the button to signal the lift door open and in you go with another 2 person.

And next, was what that annoys me....

After entering the lift, you heard a lady telling the kid not to touch the railing as it is dirty. The little girl replied saying that the lift is cramp and she needs to move in closer to the side of the railing. Then, another older lady begin to yak, " yar lor, the lift is so cramp." Loud and clear I tell you... the two aunties continue complaining till the next level; level 2.

When the lift reached level 2, the door opened and no one was there... Then you suddenly realized that these bunch of aunties actually pressed the arrow-up and arrow-down button for the lift. Since the lift was descending and empty when it reaches level 2 where they were waiting, they just board the lift and descend to level 1 with it. That's why, when it reaches level 1, they did not move out from the lift and instead, try to stop others at level 1 from boarding. And now they have the cheek to complain that the lift is cramp!!! Gosh... What is wrong with these people???

I mean hello??? If you want to do such inconsiderate things, don't complain about others. That's not all, the two aunties continue making remarks even after the door closes at level 2 during the ascend, saying that the lift so small already still want to squeeze... uber annoy-ment...

Honestly, it is really sad that Singapore, being first in so many stuff ( oh yar.... Changi airport lost it's first place), trying so hard to be the best in the world, the people yet exhibit such terrible behaviors. What happened to the courtesy campaign? FAILED

sad... just sad....

In the span of only 6 days, I am already fed up with the people here. every where you turn your head to, you just see tainted manners. The density of people here just makes matters worst.

There are so many more incidents I've came across and many simply make my head shake from side to side. Drivers here... *shake head* People eating at the hawker centers *shake head* People shopping in the malls *shake head* and people just downstairs my block *shake head*.

Guess it will be something that will not change for a long time.

MSN status icons

Those who uses MSN very often will understand most of the meaning to all those status icons. I mean, it's pretty obvious right?

For example, setting status as "Online" means that your are available to chat, "Be right back" means that you will be away for a short period of time and "Busy" means I am in the midst of something important.

Leaving the MSN on is pretty much a habit of many of us even during examinations but at the same time, setting our status to "Busy" seemed rather... too general... it pretty obvious that the person who sets his or her status to "busy" is truly busy... but what about those poor students (like yours truly) want to have something more personalized to our once every semester, pain in the butt, EXAMINATIONS? (don't you just shudders when you hear this word?)

Don't worry, I've created the new status icon for all those mugging furiously during this examination period....

It's called "I am freaking stressed up now, DO NOT DISTURB!!!" icon. Pretty sure many of you find this more applicable than the "Busy" icon yeah?

I had the most horrific dream ever....

in the past, I've dreamt of countless life or death situations that felt real and in full color. Some includes shooting down of planes and running for my dear life from invading soldiers. others had vampires fighting zombies, am the vampire queen, and trying to protect my club house in my grandma's Reality park home (that's in Hougang estate). And I even dreamt of myself flying several times, flew like a bird, but flap like a penguin.

But of all my dreams...the one I had this morning is the scariest...

I dreamt that the Singapore Gahman ban the sales of bubble tea and replace all bubble tea shops with donut shops!!! AHHH!!!! There were bulldozers tearing down some of the bubble tea shops around Tampines and no! even the one opposite TP!

Almost wanted to chain myself to the bulldozers in protest like those green peace people. But this is not for the forest! it's for bubble tea!

JEEZ.... It's the scariest dream ever!

The Lexus LS 460 and it's amazing genie trick: Auto parking

The Perth news channel was raving about the Lexus LS 460 and its marketing feature: the auto parking system. Humans are really getting lazier and now made the car park on its own!

anyway, here's the official commercial for LS 460

Before you go gah gah over this 'so called' wonderful engineering. You should see the life demonstration at a Auto Show.

And Youtube, being a wonderful place to dig for treasures, a couple of guys took the LS 460 for a test drive and tried the auto parking system for a normal park.

I mean... come on man. While the driver, plus the passenger figured out and complete the set up for the park, an old lady would have taken the lot and happily shopping in the mall.

Here next is a test drive(park) by another group of people.

Seems like the system only helps to guide the car for the reverse, but the driver has to take control for the forward adjustment. Can't imagine a parking idiot crashes into the car infront with this car... hahaha

Like I've mentioned, Youtube is a great place... Who would think that a big company would come out with this? Hyundai make fun of Lexus with this funny commercial.

But this ad takes the cake. Watch as Audi takes a jab at Lexus auto parking in their own commercial. Read closely to what they have to say.

Redbull Air Race 2007

Went to watch the race with Deborah and got ourselves tan until chao tah. We managed to get a good spot with unobstructed view.

The racing planes were zooming between the pylons, SUPER close to the water!

In between each round of the race, there were the air show with Qantas making a low fly pass...

A glider swooping around gracefully with red smoke streaming out from the tip of each wing.

And of course, the stars of the show, the racers themselves!

Burnt Holiday: Ecology Field trip Day 2 & 3, Plant Project

Super over due posting. Been busy occupied by a lot of stuff lately and haven't got the time to sit down and post the reminding photos for the burnt holiday series.

So day two of my 'burnmypreciousholidayschoolfieldtrip' project was carried out at a plot of Banksia woodlands just 30 mins drive northwards from Uni. Last Christmas, a fire cleared this area and now WE poor students were there to study about the effects of fire.

We did the same stuff for this site, measure trees, count plants, getting spooked by a brown snake, play with insects and record trees height. blah blah..

for your info, many tree species in Western Australia actually need fire to reproduce. The seeds of the plant are encased in a tough cone and fire triggers the release of the seeds. The post-fire sites also have more flowering plants as you can see from the photo.

Of course! here are the photos of the lovely flowers!

Here a photo of my tutor showing us a seedling of a casuarina tree. You know those big big christmas tree look a like you see along east coast park, that grow those mini durian like pine cones? Here's the baby of those trees...

So cute and tiny! This shows that everything needs to start off small.

After showing many photos of beautiful orchids in Perth, here's the miniature of the lot!

At the end of the field trip, it's time to return home and relax~!

Burnt Holiday: Ecologyy Field Trip Day 1, Plant Project

It's the one week break here in Murdoch University and here I am, stuck in school or in the field hugging trees.... Why? For Ecology project lor.... As a subject without tutorials or lab sessions, we have to fulfill the hours by attending field trips and collect data.

Being a member of group 3, we have to carry out 2 different project sampling. The first one is to collect data from 2 different plant communities; one is experiencing drought where as the other went through drought topped with a fire last Christmas.We're supposed to compare between these two plant communities and find out about the survivability of the plants to the drought/fire conditions.

After that, I became super paranoid and decided to check every tree for anything before I wrap my arms round the trunk to take the measurement...

This is not only the creepy crawlie they have in there...
I shared my cornflakes with some ants during lunch break...

And a beautifully marked spider skittered across the ground.

Of course, we found some pretty stuff too. With spring running in its full bloom, many species of flower displayed proudly in scattered patches.

That's for day 1... And yeah... I did brought back more than what I bargained for....

Potluck dinner with SSA friends

A bunch of us together with our friends from SSA decided to hold a potluck dinner and let me tell you... It was a blast! We drove up north to the home nearby ECU, Joondalup campus, bringing loads of food.

We played Wii too. Total madness man... It's amazing that something so simple like the game itself can bring so much fun and laughter. the graphic is so simple! but the gameplay and fantastic! (ops.... the gaming student side of me coming out)I kept winning the fishing game with all my exotic catch.

I'm so loving every moment with them. SSA and TSL really rockz!

And the boy cut down her trunk and made a boat and sailed away. And the tree was happy..... but not really.

After a long time the boy came back again. " I'm sorry, Boy, said the tree, "but i've nothing left to give you - My apples are gone." "My teeth are too weak for apples," said the boy. "my branches are gone," said the tree. "you cannot swing on them" "i'm too old to swing on branches" said the boy. "my trunk is gone" said the tree "you cannot climb" "i'm too tired to climb" said the boy. "I'm sorry" sighed the tree, "i wish i could give you something... but i have nothing left, i'm just an old stump, i'm sorry...." "i dont need very much now"said the boy, "just a quiet place to sit a rest. I'm very tired" "well said the tree, straightening herself up as much as she could, "well an old stump is good for sitting and resting. Come Boy, sit down and rest."

We had Chinese Orchestra performance, a violin performance by a little girl, BBQ food and last but not least... TSL Committee Skit!

The weather here is starting to warm up as the last few cold front sweeps past Perth. With spring arriving, an array of wild flowers bloom everywhere as if to celebrate the good rainy season.

And amongst the urban jungle, grows a resilient specie of flowering plant.

And just outside my house, a pair sprout from the ground one day and brightens up the day with it's pretty orange petals.

Actually it is a specie of introduced plant in Western Australia and it invades many native habitat. But it's amazing that simple things like that can make a person smile...

Just like life, when someone is studying, they will think that working is so much better. Then when they started working, they want to go back study... Once they are back in school, they want to work again...

See.... Life is like Nasi lemak, it is better from the other stalls...

Your form teacher taught you Maths, Science and English.

You went to school in slippers and a raincoat when it rained, and you find a dry spot in the school to sit down, dry your feet, and wear your dry and warm socks and shoes.

There would be spelling tests and mental sums to do almost everyday (you hated them).

Your friends considered you lucky and rich if your parents gave you $2 or more for pocket mone everyday.

You saw Wee Kim Wee's face in the school hall.

Oh my goodness! I haven't seen a hum (cockle) for the longest time man!!!! To think that hum is a part of my life back in Singapore... Really took these creatures for grant you know... Now it's like rare to find it here in Perth.

This hum came together in the marinara mix I added into my instant noodles.

2.5 more months to go!!!! Then I'll be in Hum heaven called Singapore...

Over here is the shot of my tutorial mates trying the hardware called Eye Toy. Apparently it's out since 3-4 years ago. But I seriously never heard of this device. Anyway, it is a motion detecting sensor. So you play the game by moving your arms and body. Unfortunately, these product is a big flop. Quite frustrating to use.

Australia Mosquitoes and Singapore Mosquitoes

I was complaining to Denise about the mosquitoes that bit me during my field trip on monday when she started to talk about the mosquitoes here. It goes something like this:

D: the mosquitoes here are like damn big man....
A: YA! freaking like 3 times bigger than the ones in Singapore.
D: ya lor, those here also damn slow, can hit them easily.

So that concludes, generally things here are larger than things in Singapore. Larger mosquitoes, larger crows, larger spiders and larger heart. But then again... Singapore definately can win on the large contest. Larger fines.

Remember watching Japan Hour on SCV back in SG and they broadcasting a documentary about some traditional Japanese food stuff. Among those favourites are the Konpeito and Wagashi. It's amazing how much effort is put in to make each of these delicacies.
